Now Get Out and Ride!

Many wanting to get started in mountain biking, are easily overwhelmed by all of the choices, options and terminology. Here in the shop, we often are asked, “how do I find the bike that is right for me?”.

It’s a question we are always happy to answer.

Choosing the Right Bike for You: We begin by asking a few questions that will help us better understand the type of experience you are looking to get out of your bike.

What Are You Wanting to Do With Your Bike? Everyone has different types of riding they are interested in and different reasons for wanting to ride.

Some of you are interested in ripping the downhills, some are interested in getting into better shape or simply enjoying the rails-to-trails with the family. No matter what you are hoping to do, we can help you find the right bike.

Once we have an understanding of what you would like from you riding, we can have you try a few bikes that we think might work. Riding a demo will give you an idea of how they feel they will feel, before making the investment.

Things you might hear about when looking for a bike:

  • 26” wheels vs. 29” wheels
  • Shimano vs. Sram
  • Platform vs. Clip-less
  • 2×10 vs. 3×10
  • Full suspension vs. Hard tail
  • etc… etc… etc…

What Does All This Stuff Mean? Don’t freak-out trying to make sense of all of the terminology on your own.  We’re here to help.

When you are in the shop, we will help you understand the different features and benefits of each of the options available.  Let us be your guide through all the “hub-bub”.

It is part of our company philosophy to provide straight answers and advice to the community.

We want your bike to be “Fit for you”!  Some people might be 5’10” with short legs and a long torso so a medium frame with a longer stem could be right for them.  Back problems?  Maybe a seat-post shock or adjustable stem could make your bike more comfortable.  We will talk you through all your options to get you fit right.  And yes, color can be important because when you look at your “steed” you should want to take it for a ride.

When you walk out the door with your new ride we want you to understand how your bike works.  We will also need to set you up with the proper accessories (water bottles, tools, helmet) so you will be prepared for your first ride.  These things are important for a successful, fun and safe adventure.

Now get out and ride!
