Cascades descend through the cliffs and boulders of the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve to form Turkey Creek Falls. With an 8-foot drop flowing over staircase rocks, we will enjoy the falls via a short half-mile hike along Fisherman’s Trail from the Hawks Nest Marina parking area.
Directions to Turkey Creek Waterfall:
Drive to Hawks Nest State Park.
Parking:
● Pull into the Hawks Next Lodge Parking Lot. This will be our meeting spot. Arrive 15 minutes early because we leave on time!
Starting the Trail:
● Walk to the right of the parking lot.
● Behind the picnic shelter, look for the sign “Cliff Side Trail.”
● There is a trail right beside the sign.
Follow the Trail:
● On Apple Maps, search for “fisherman’s trail access” for trail directions.
● Walk the trail for approximately 0.7 miles until you exit onto a flat, wide path.
● Turn right after exiting the trail.
● Walk about a quarter mile.
● Turkey Creek Waterfall will be on the right side.
Trail Difficulty:
● Overall Rating: VERY STRENUOUS
● The trail to the waterfall is mostly downhill.
Trail Conditions:
● Be cautious of rocks sticking out on the trail.
● The trail requires careful footing at all points.
● The hike back is entirely uphill!
● There are at least two spots where the trail becomes very narrow.
Waterfall View:
The waterfall provides a perfect view and is well worth the hike.
Enjoy a beautiful view of the river on the short walk to the waterfall.
Hiking Conditions:
We highly recommend that you wear hiking boots on all trails. If the hike is during a wet period where muddy conditions could make the trail slippery, you will need proper footwear. No tennis shoes or flip flops! Remember this is a HIKE, not a WALK.
For people with mobility issues or struggle with muscle control, this trail could prove to be potentially challenging.
Hike Restrictions:
Due to insurance restraints, the following are NOT permitted on the hikes:

-Pregnant women
-Children under 9
