His Joy of the New River Gorge Trails

R. Bryan Simon has always loved outdoor adventure. Growing up in Lewis County, WV, he rafted and hiked with his parents and met his wife while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. On a hike in England, where he was studying Mountain Medicine, he realized he could combine his passion for hiking and climbing, and reach one of his life-long goals to write a book. Once back home in Fayetteville, WV, Simon got to work on “Hiking and Biking in the New River Gorge: A Trail User’s Guide.”

Simon’s guidebook focuses on Fayetteville as the adventure hub, but provides detailed and accurate information for hikers, climbers, runners, and bikers throughout the New River Gorge area. He delivers trail descriptions; cultural highlights; and course maps, GPS coordinates, elevations, and lengths for the National Park Service trails; as well as the trails of the local state parks. Guide users will find information on local lodging; unique dining options; adventure activities; outfitters; website and Facebook addresses; significant points of interest; and additional resource literature. This book is a complete and unique guide to planning a trail-travelling trip to the New River Gorge area of West Virginia.

“I hope this guidebook will be helpful and useful so people can enjoy the New River Gorge as much as I do,” says Simon.

“Hiking and Biking in the New River Gorge: A Trail User’s Guide” is available locally at the Fayetteville Convention and Visitors Bureau, Water Stone Outdoors, Marathon Bicycle Company, ACE Adventure Resort, New River Antique Mall, or direct from Wolverine Publishing (sales@wolverine publishing.com).
