Fayetteville’s Small Town Christmas Celebration

 

Nestled in the picturesque mountains of West Virginia you can step back in time and enjoy Fayetteville’s Small Town Christmas Celebration. Fayetteville gets all dolled up for the holidays celebrating with true small-town flair. Escape the hustle and bustle of the holidays and enjoy a getaway with your family. You can shop small and enjoy strolling around historic downtown Fayetteville as the storefronts come to life with Christmas displays all month long.  The town square will light up like a Christmas storybook with lights strung and fresh greenery bringing the town square to life. The Festivities kick off during Fayetteville’s Small Town Christmas Celebration this weekend!

DEC. 1st

The fun starts Friday evening as everyone lines  Maple Avenue to gear up for  Fayetteville’s Annual Christmas parade at 5 pm. Head over to The Grove after the parade for the Fayetteville Arts Coalitions Holiday Art Sampler. Shop for handcrafted items made by local artists. Enjoy shopping in an intimate setting where you can chat with your favorite artists.

The second annual Active Southern West Virginia Ugly Sweater Walk/Run will take place at the Fayette County Park Friday evening.  It will be held during the first night of the Fayette County Park’s Winter Wonderland Light Display. If you want something a little more relaxing stop by New River Yoga for Yoga for a Cause at 6pm. This will be a donation based class with all proceeds going to the New River Humane Society.

DEC. 2nd

Start your Saturday with Breakfast With Santa at Cathedral Cafe from 8 am to 11 am. Fayetteville’s Annual Christmas Craft show is held Saturday at the Memorial Building from 9 am to 5 pm with over 50 craft vendors. Take a break from the craft show and visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus at Kool Beanz for photos with Santa from 12 pm to 3 pm. Hot cocoa, live music, and truffles will enhance your shopping experience as you explore the unique boutiques and variety of shops that Fayetteville has to offer. If you missed the Fayetteville Arts Sampler you have a second chance to check it out Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm.

There will be lots of activities going on throughout town. Get into the spirit of the holidays with Sugar Cookie Decorating at Sweet T’s Bakery. Sweet T’s Bakery is like stepping into Candy Land. Get crafty at the Fayetteville Visitor Center as the Fayetteville Arts Coalition hosts a craft, “Make and Take Snowflakes” 11 am to 3pm. Be a part of the Greening of The Town as the community comes together to make and decorate the town with fresh greenery. The Greening of the town will take place in The Station’s Parking lot and throughout town for the decorating. Have you ever seen Ice carving? Watch Executive Chef Steven Halliday from Adventures On the Gorge transform a block of ice into an intricate sculpture in front of Town Hall starting at 4pm. Follow up your evening with a show, enjoy “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at the Historic Fayette Theater.

 

You won’t want to miss out on the town-wide Ugly Sweater Competition. We are having a town To enter the contest stop by the Sweater Selfie Booth at the Fayetteville Visitor Center.  

DEC. 3rd

Make it a weekend getaway and stick around through Sunday. This time of year you can see incredible views of the gorge with the leaves off the trees making it the perfect time to enjoy a hike with no crowds.  After you explore around Fayetteville all day try your hand at painting. The Fayetteville Arts Coalition is hosting the Creative Juices Holiday Edition class where you can create two paintings from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Fayetteville Visitors Center. Be a part of our awesome town and experience Fayetteville’s Small Town Christmas Celebration.

Small Business Saturday Fayetteville

Fayetteville, while known for its outdoor activities, is a great place to come to shop small all year round.  Part of Fayetteville’s unique and vibrant culture is contributed to by a myriad of locally owned independent businesses which support our community.  There is something for everyone from our boutiques and antique stores to our adventure shops and more. Many of the shops are walk-to locations in historic downtown making this the perfect town to spend your Small Business Saturday.

You don’t even have to get out of your pajamas to enjoy Small Business Saturday in Fayetteville; in fact, we recommend you leave them on!  Twisted Gypsy’s, a small clothing boutique, is having a pajama party and you’re invited. Come out warm and cozy and shop in your pj’s while enjoying some hot chocolate and homemade cookies. Twisted Gypsy’s will also be offering 15 percent off for every $100 spent for Small Business Saturday only.

Fayetteville is a great town for treasure hunting with the New River Antique Mall, D & K Collectables, Enjoyed Again, and The Hobbit Hole – vintage finds are everywhere.  Stop by The Hobbit Hole to find a unique gift while you jam out to Bing Crosby, enjoy hot drinks and cookies, and you can purchase a fresh handmade wreath. Plus everything in The Hobbit Hole will be 10% off!.

Cruise on over to Wisteria Gifts to find designer bags, home décor, jewelry, and accessories. Wisteria Gift’s will have storewide sales Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. If you need to take a break grab a coffee at Kool Beanz or Cathedral Café. If coffee isn’t your thing, get refreshed and fueled up for more shopping with a smoothie from The Raw & Juicy Bar To tempt your further Cathedral Cafe will be giving away small coffees and cookies, and The Raw and Juicy Bar will be giving away gluten-free, vegan cookies.  You can even commemorate your Small Business Saturday with a fun photo booth onsite

Ben Franklin Crafts is a must stop to add to your list with primitives, crafts supplies, wrapping supplies, frames and more. For more interesting and individualized gifts head to The Fox & Hound where you are sure to find home accessories like candles and furniture.  Bridge View Candles, which are used by the popular television series Barnwood Builders, will be selling custom candles out of The Fox and Hound. Pick up a pre-made candle or have a custom candle created with your family initials or logo or out of a bottle that holds sentimental value.

Looking for more handmade West Virginia items check out Studio B. Studio B has a large selection of craft beers and wine, sure to please anyone on your Christmas list. You can get 10 percent off a case of wine on Small Business Saturday. If you are not interested in a fine beverage then shop a variety of handcrafted items created by local artists including jewelry, paintings, and knitted goods.

If you’re an adventurer or have one on your Christmas list, we have Waterstone Outdoors, Ace Adventure Gear, and New River Gear and Gifts.  Waterstone Outdoors, a long-standing outdoor shop and community hub, will be having a sale. Ace Adventure Gear will be offering a storewide blowout sale with everything marked 20 % off – including sale items! Get thrifty at New River Gear and Gifts.  For the Rider in your life head on over to Marathon Bicycle Company and New River Bikes.   Marathon Bikes will have 20 percent off clothing and accessories.
