Hike to Red Ash Island

3 to 4-mile easy hike with a short moderate off-trail section. Hike along an old railroad line to the coal mine town of Red Ash, plus explore the cemetery on Red Ash Island, a place filled with stories of the challenges faces by people that lived and worked in the New River Gorge. Be prepared for short, moderate hike off trail to get to the island. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and long pants; bring water.
