Peaceful Parade Mt. Hope

Our neighboring town, Mt. Hope is hosting a Peaceful Parade today at 6pm.

We invite you to join us THIS FRIDAY JUNE 12th at 6:00 PM in Mount Hope for a Peaceful Parade to support the lives of our black community members.

Mount Hope has been a salad bowl of diversity from the early days of the coalfields, and we are coming together to show our love for our community.

The Mount Hope Regional Band will be playing on Main Street beginning at 6:00 PM. We encourage anyone who would like to join the parade to feel free to begin meeting at 5:00 PM along High School Dr. and Virginia St.

Kindness Spotlight: #Loveisreal

Love has spread beyond are county with #Loveisreal acts popping up as far as Beckley and beyond. We want to shed a light on a local community leader, Chris Lawson. Thank you for launching the Love Is Real campaign with the mission of showing people that love is real and bringing people together. The message has spread like wildfire as acts of kindness have been popping up throughout town with many of the acts orchestrated by Chris Lawson himself.

NRHS Drive-Thru Pet Food Distribution & Donation Drive

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our community, many families who are struggling to feed themselves are also facing the challenge of feeding their beloved pets. To help area pet owners in need, the New River Humane Society will be hosting a drive-thru pet food distribution event at Tractor Supply in Oak Hill on Friday, June 12th from 6pm-8pm.

The distribution will occur as a no-contact drive-thru pick up, and individuals will be asked to stay in their cars as food is loaded into their vehicle by volunteers. For the safety of all involved, volunteers will wear a mask and gloves at all times. Those who are picking up food are also asked to wear a mask or mouth/nose covering of some kind.

We are also seeking any and all donations to help us care for the animals at the Fayette County Animal Control Center. Current needs include canned & dry kitten food, canned & dry puppy food, toilet paper, paper towels, disinfectant spray, hand soap, hand sanitizer, dish soap, laundry detergent, 30 gal (or larger) trash bags, and bleach

Rock Kindness

We are hosting a community art project at the Fayetteville Visitor Center. Help us spread the love by painting rocks with us. The rocks will be placed around the kiosk at the visitor center. We encourage you to create images that promote kindness and love. Feel free to write positive messages. We are hoping to create a rainbow of colors. We encourage all ages to participate. We will have a no contact rock drop off box on the visitor center porch. If you need access to paint and supplies shoot us a message and we can get you supplies to join in the fun. We will be collecting rocks all month long.

Updated Restaurant & Retail List

Opening Status 6/12

#Fayettevillewvstrong

We love our little slice of almost heaven and our community is what makes this place so special. Over the coming weeks and months, our favorite restaurants, shops, places to stay and places to play in our beloved town are going to see a decline in visitors. Our little town is dependent on tourism so we are especially going to take a hit. Our small businesses need us now more than ever. #Fayettevillewvstrong is a movement to support our town and community.

You can help in lots of ways: ordering food to go, shopping online, tipping well, buy a gift card, leave a positive review, or just spread the word about your favorite small business and the #fayettevillewvstrong campaign. We are an outdoorsy close-knit town and we will be utilizing our strengths. You will see more businesses utilizing outdoor spaces. Please be patient with us as we navigate new changes and try to keep each other safe.
