WHAT IS BRIDGE DAY?
Bridge Day is West Virginia’s largest single-day festival and one of the largest extreme sports events in the world. Held annually every third Saturday in October on the New River Gorge Bridge in Fayette County, West Virginia, this is the only day each year thousands of spectators can walk across the bridge and watch as BASE jumpers get their chance to fly 876 feet into the Gorge below and rappelers ascend and descend from the catwalk. Come and enjoy the view from the bridge, one of the best overlooks in the New River Gorge!
Lodging
The first step to a successful Bridge Day is finding somewhere to stay and Fayetteville is the center of the fun. As Bridge Day nears lodging books up fast so now is the time to secure your lodging if you have not already. If you are staying in town there is a Bridge Day shuttle stop right in front of the Fayette County Court House in the center of town and at Fayetteville PK-8 school off Maple Ave.
NEW- Clear Bags Allowed
Clear backpacks and clear handbags will be allowed at Bridge Day (subject to search). To prepare for the event, purchase your own clear bag on the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce website or in person at the Fayette County Chamber office.
These bags will also be available to purchase at participating shuttle stop locations (cash only and while supplies last).
What to Wear
We encourage visitors to dress in layers. Fall can be cool and damp, but the fun continues no matter the weather. Warm layers and comfy shoes make for an enjoyable experience.

Taste of Bridge Day at Adventures on the Gorge

The Canyon Rim Rotary Club organizes the annual Taste of Bridge Day festival at Adventures on the Gorge. This is a family-friendly event that showcases the area’s finest restaurants and caterers, who offer samples of their menu specialties. The event allows thousands of visitors to enjoy wonderful food, local artwork, and live music. Food samples range from $1.00 to $8.00 and tickets may be purchased online or at the gate. Funds raised from this event benefit the local Canyon Rim Rotary Club in their community service projects and numerous donations to local charitable organizations. All proceeds go directly back to the local community!

- 7:15 AM: ASWV’s Bridge Day 5K Racers arrive at designated pickup spots
- 8:30 AM: Buses begin transporting 5k racers to starting line
- 8:30 AM: Shuttles begin at designated lots
- 9:00 AM: Bridge Day Begins
- 9:00 AM: Bridge Day 5K Race begins
- 9:00 AM: Into The Gorge bus rides start (SOLD OUT)
- 1:30 PM: Into The Gorge bus rides end
- 3:00 PM: Bridge Day ends
- 3:00 PM: Bridge Day chili cookoff in downtown Fayetteville
- 5:00 PM: Route 19 re-opens. Detour ends
Active Southern WV Bridge Day 5K Run
Don’t miss your once-a-year opportunity to run across the New River Gorge Bridge on October 15th, 2022. Active SWV’s Bridge Day 5K course starts on the North side of the NRG Bridge and gives runners the chance to take in the vast views from the bridge while running south towards the Court Street finish line in the town of Fayetteville. Sign-ups max out at 500 racers, so make sure to secure your spot now! After the race, stick around for all of the Official Bridge Day festivities!
This is a run only event. No walking allowed due to restricted road closures with the Official Bridge Day event.

The Active SWV Bridge Day 5K RUN provides the highest level of quality, safety, and accommodation possible for participants. Each racer has a responsibility to understand event logistics and follow security guidelines. Please read all event details to ensure a smooth race experience. This event is very important to Active SWV and the Kids Run Clubs & Community Captains it supports.
Shuttle Bus Locations
We recommend utilizing the Bridge Day Shuttles and avoiding long walks to the festivities.
South – Fayette Landing Shopping Center

The bus stop will be located on the south side of the median just past AT&T, at the far end of the median from the store.
South – Fayetteville Wal-Mart

The bus stop will be located at the far left side of WalMart.
South – Fayetteville High School
515 W Maple Ave Fayetteville, WV 25840
The bus stop is right at the entrance to the gravel parking area. The buses turn around in front of the school and stop to pick up at the entrance to the upper gravel area.
South – Fayetteville Court House

The bus stop will be across from the Court House on Maple Avenue in front of Marathon Bicycle and Southside Junction.
North – Smales Branch Road

Bridge Day Chili Cook-off & Craft Beer Festival

Things are heating up in Fayetteville with the 11th Annual Bridge Day Chili Cook-off! Have fun at Bridge Day, then come to Historic Downtown Fayetteville, stop by to taste and to help judge some of the best chili samples from around the region from mild to wild! Admission and parking are FREE, but there is a charge for chili tasting tickets and beer tickets.
Enjoy live music with the Long Point String Band, delicious chili, activities for the kids and more! Help us Crown this year’s Chili King or Queen with the People’s choice vote, bead your favorite chef!

Where Can I park in Fayetteville?
It is a Saturday, so visitors can utilize the Board of Education lot off of Fayette Ave in blue and the Bus Garage lot off Fayette Ave in addition to all of the places listed on the parking map.
